New Summit Stage director chosen

SUMMIT COUNTY – Summit County government has selected John Jones as the new director of the Summit Stage, the county’s free bus service. The department’s budget is more than $7 million, including capital, and employs more than 50 people. Primary funding comes from a three-quarters of a penny sales tax. Jones will begin Oct. 11. The top position at the Stage has been vacant since mid-July when Bill Watterson left to take a similar post in Virginia. Jones was selected after a national search. He has 28 years of experience in the public transit industry and was formerly the Medina County transit director in Ohio. Jones is experienced in operations and administrative areas related to the field including planning, policy-making and budgets. As well, he has experience with federal grants and other financing for transit operations. “I can’t wait to get out there and get started,” Jones said in a prepared statement.
