New support group for avy center needs help

summit daily news

The Colorado Avalanche Information Center’s new nonprofit friends group needs your help.

For years, the avalanche center has scrambled with funding for its day-to-day operations. State funding covers work-related expenses to controlling avalanches near highways, but outreach for backcountry travelers relies in part on grassroots funding.

In the past few months, a group of supporters has rallied to create a nonprofit friends group dedicated to fundraising for the center.

The group recently launched a new website and is looking for help with planning this year’s big pre-season fundraiser.
