Nicholas benefit raises $10k
April 6, 2009
SUMMIT COUNTY ” Longtime local Becky Nicholas finally caught a break ” after fighting cancer for almost a year, her friends raised $10,000 to offset medical expenses and keep her in the county.
“It’s been a big help,” Nicholas said. “I’m pretty thankful for that. We’re staying in Summit County and working it out.”
Hundreds of people showed support for Nicholas by attending her fundraiser in late March held at the Summit County Elks Lodge in Silverthorne. It included a $10 spaghetti dinner, a silent auction and a raffle.
Since July 2008, Nicholas has undergone numerous treatments ” including surgeries, chemotherapy and radiation ” for fourth stage, non-cell lung cancer that traveled to her brain.
“I feel pretty good,” Nicholas said. “I’m starting treatments again in six weeks.”
Nicholas has lived in Summit County since 1984. She married Bobby Nicholas in 1997 after meeting him at the Moose Jaw in Frisco.
