No fire restrictions this week in Summit County, marking second consecutive summer without bans

Summit County Sheriff Jaime FitzSimons is not advising fire restrictions this week, citing heavy moisture in ground fuels that is persisting following a precipitation-filled few months. It brings to an end the second consecutive summer with no fire restrictions, he said.
“It could obviously change. Historically, Summit County’s fire season has always been late fall, so we still have that to come,” FitzSimons said during a Sept. 19 Summit Board of County Commissioners meeting.
Last week, fire danger levels moved back to “low” after hovering at “moderate,” according to Summit Fire & EMS.
