Now it’s time for smoking ban supporters to help patronize restaurants and bars

No matter where your opinion is, or was, on the pending smoking bans throughout county, most understand it’s a sign of the times and a trend in our society.

The proponents of this movement must realize that after the laws come into effect, the work is not done. The easy part was getting the laws passed, as anti-smoking attitudes run strong in this region.

Now is the time to muster up the same level of support for the one group that is understandably nervous about what the future holds for them – the restaurants and bars of Summit County.

If you supported the ban(s), then you made an agreement with these businesses that you will become a customer, and that you will frequent establishments that you might not have gone to before the new smoking laws.

The restaurants and clubs have been told that business will increase as a result of a smoke-free environment, that new customers will appear that might not have been willing to visit certain establishments in the past.

Those who supported the new smoking laws have to live up to their end of the bargain. These businesses are counting on you.

So do just that – show your loyalty to your favorite establishments. When the time is right, take the time to visit someplace you’ve never been before.

Tip the bartenders and wait staff big, don’t ask for discounts and let managers and owners know you will be returning time and time again (and with tons of friends and family).
