NRO features film favorites

BRECKENRIDGE – The magic of “Harry Potter,” the warmth of “E.T.,” the adventure of “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” the galactic explosions of “Star Wars” and the bittersweet hope of “Schindler’s List” flood the stage this weekend as the National Repertory Orchestra (NRO) presents the music of John Williams.

Composer and conductor Williams is best known for his film scores and ceremonial music. He has won five Academy awards, 17 Grammys, three Golden Globes, two Emmys and five awards from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts.

The NRO will perform “Summon the Heroes,” “Suite from Harry Potter,” “Adventures on Earth” from “E.T.,” pieces from “Star Wars” and “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” and “Schindler’s List,” featuring violin soloist Laura Motchalov.

“(The theme of “Schlinder’s List’) is a very melancholy movement but is hopeful at the same time,” Motchalov said. “In the second movement, the sound is a little more traditionally Jewish. The third is like the theme. The tone is also sad but hopeful. They’re very catchy.”

“I love communicating an emotional message to the audience,” she said.

The NRO performs at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Riverwalk Center in Breckenridge and at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Park Lane Pavilion in Keystone. Tickets are $17, $22 and $27 and may be purchased by calling (970) 547-3100.
