The National Repertory Orchestra will present popular singer-actor Marcia Ragonetti and baritone Steven Taylor in a tuneful exploration of the Jerome Kern songbook, with Travis Yamamoto on piano, on Friday, March 27, at the Silverthorne Pavilion.
The evening will feature songs such as “The Way You Look Tonight,” “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes” and the songs from “Show Boat.” On the heels of previous sellout shows, the musicians tackle Kern, a composer hailed by a joint congressional resolution as “the father of American musical theater.” The audience will enjoy historical insights while being serenaded by a musical feast of iconic songs from the legend-worthy songwriter.
A cash bar will be available for concert attendees. Tickets for the event are $20 for adults, $30 for primer seating and $5 for students. Seating is limited; reservations can be made by calling (970) 453-5825 or online at http://www.nromusic.com.
ABOUT THE MUSICIANS
Ragonetti is recognized as one of the Rocky Mountain region’s most celebrated singing actresses, hailed by critics as a “perfectly splendid mezzo.” She has been associated with Opera Colorado since its inception in 1982, having performed more than 20 leading and featured roles. She has also appeared frequently with Central City Opera, Colorado Symphony Orchestra (an unprecedented 22 times in wide-ranging repertoire), Colorado Springs Philharmonic, summer festivals in Vail, Chautauqua-Boulder and Crested Butte, as well as with the San Antonio and Utah Symphonies.
For Opera Colorado’s 30th anniversary season, Ragonetti was most recently seen as Gertrude in “Romeo et Juliette.” Cabaret-style singing includes original biographically based musical revues on the Gershwin Brothers, Cole Porter, Jerome Kern and Irving Berlin.
Currently serving as dean of the School of Music at Colorado Christian University, Taylor is known to audiences throughout the Rocky Mountain region both for his beautiful, expressive singing and his dramatic interpretations.
He has been a guest artist and faculty member at the Vocal Arts Symposium of Colorado College and a former member of the voice faculty at the University of Northern Colorado. Taylor’s versatile singing career ranges from opera and oratorio to musical theater, gospel and jazz. Appearing with major symphonies throughout the west, he has also been seen onstage in multiple productions with Central City Opera, Opera Ft. Collins, Opera Theatre of the Rockies, Boulder’s Dinner Theatre, the Denver Brass, Aspen Theatre, Crested Butte Theatre and 16 seasons with Opera Colorado.
Yamamoto has worked as a pianist and/or musical director for Boulder’s Dinner Theatre, The Denver Civic Theatre, The Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities, The Denver Center for the Performing Arts, Miners’ Alley Playhouse, The Evergreen Players, Vintage Theatre, Central City Opera and the Colorado Hebrew Chorale. He has won awards in composition from The National Conference on Piano Pedagogy and the ASCAP Standard Awards Panel. Yamamoto is currently a lecturer in music for the College of Arts and Media at the University of Colorado, Denver, and is a member of the Antique Phonograph Society.
