Gretchen Liddle Abernathy, 76, passed away on Saturday, November 9, 2024 in the comfort of her home from cancer. Gretchen was born in Denver, Colorado on October 31, 1948 to Dr. Edward and Evelyn Liddle, grew up in Colorado Springs and attended Connecticut College. After a few years on the east coast, the mountains of Breckenridge called to her in 1968, the town, and community, becoming her forever home.

She married Thomas Abernathy on October 4, 1970.
She is proceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brother Greg.
She is survived by son Cameron (Sara) Abernathy, grandchildren Max and Audrey, daughter Polly (Harrison) Abernathy-Mandell, and brother David (Vicki) Liddle.

Gretchen was an avid lover of the outdoors spending time walking her dog, cross country skiing or just enjoying the sun on her face. She was a non denominational wedding minister, performing hundreds of weddings. In the 50+ years of living in Breckenridge, Gretchen was known for having the first BMW in Summit County, her calligraphy, artwork, cookies, coordinating the memorial dog tree and the 2023-24 Ullr Queen. A celebration of life will be held in the spring.
