Obituary: Gunnar Asphaug

OCT. 16, 1924 – FEB. 19, 2015

Gunnar Asphaug, 90, a Norwegian-American retiree in Breckenridge from 1989 to 2004, died Feb. 19, 2015, in Littleton. He is survived by his wife, Tulla, and sons Rolf and Erik and their families.

Gunnar was known for his backyard native flower garden at High and Adams streets. He loved walking around town, skiing, visiting the rec center and socializing with Breckenridge Music Society friends. More than 100 guests celebrated his 80th birthday at Carter Park.

In 2004 Tulla and Gunnar moved to Centennial. Despite memory loss, Gunnar continued to remember family and friends and was always in good spirits.

Gunnar will be laid to rest in Littleton Cemetery at 10 a.m. Friday, June 5. In lieu of a memorial service, a remembrance gathering will be held at noon that day at the Asphaugs’ home. Please contact Rolf Asphaug at for more information.
