July 31, 1962 – May 30, 2025

Loretta Lucille Vigil (62) of La Madera, New Mexico joined our Heavenly Father on May 30, 2025 after a courageous battle of stage 4 cancer. She departed peacefully in her home, surrounded by her loving family.

Loretta was born on July 31, 1962 in Española, New Mexico. She grew up in Gilman, Colorado where she met the love of her life, Ted. Loretta touched the lives of those around her with her strength, resilience and unwavering spirit. Despite facing the challenges of her illness, she remained a beacon of hope and inspiration to all who knew her. Loretta’s’ love for children and teaching led her to opening her own daycares in Edwards, Colorado and then Lil’ Sprouts Daycare, in Dillon, Colorado. There she was able to influence a numerous amount of children in learning and touched the lives of many families in Summit County, Colorado. Loretta was known for her infectious laugh, compassionate nature, unwavering kindness and warm hospitality. Loretta was a very religious woman and made sure her family knew that she was excited to go to her eternal home one day; whenever our Lord called for her, she was ready. Loretta’s passing has been a huge struggle for her family however, they are comfortable knowing she left peacefully to be joined with our Lord.

Loretta is survived and dearly missed by her loving husband of 43 years, Theodore (Ted) Vigil; sons Christopher, Brian and Matthew; granddaughter Macaila Vigil. Forever cherished and remembered by her siblings and their families; brother Eric Gallegos, sisters Orlina (Lee) Trujillo, Pauline Aragon, Annabelle Peglow, Maria Hernandez and Lupe Heard.

Loretta was preceded in death by her infant son, Thomas Anthony; parents Nabor Gallegos and Macaila Lucero; bother Clarence Lucero and sister Juanita Romero.

All are welcome to join the family to celebrate Loretta’s life; starting with the Rosary which will begin at 6:00pm on Thursday June 5, 2025, at the DeVargas Funeral Home in Española, NM. Mass will take place the following day on Friday June 6, 2025, at 11:00am at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Santa Cruz, NM. The interment will be held at the La Madera Cemetery. Following the burial, there will be a reception.

Serving as Pallbearers are Terrence Nixon, Dontay Gallegos, Erica Arana, Robert Lopez, Gregg Griego and Gered Griego.
