Michael Scott Smyth
December 6, 1966, to March 8, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our Son, Brother, Uncle and friend to all, Mike Smyth. He was welcomed into heaven March 8, 2025, by Grandparents Jim and Delores Smyth, George and Lucille Mellalieu and (Aunt) Linda Manuel, who all had a huge influence on the man that became Mike. He is survived by parents Jim and Kay Smyth, Sister Lynda (Jon), Brothers Jim (Alice) and Bill (Misti). He was the best uncle to: Nicole (Elery), Jons, Justin (Tiffany), Ryan (Tessla), Keaton and Ashley and great uncle to: Raylee (Steven), Hunter, Alexia, Riley and Harper. He also leaves behind his Ohio Aunts, Uncles and many cousins.
Mike was born and raised in Ohio until the family moved to New Mexico in 1975. After graduating from Moriarty High School in 1985 , he followed in Grandpa George’s footsteps and became an electrician, and headed north to Colorado with his best friend and companion Zeak by his side to begin his adventure, landing in the Frisco area and on to Breckenridge.
The mountains were the perfect playground for Mike’s many interests including rock climbing, mountain biking, hiking, mushroom harvesting and exploring.
Mike worked for Triangle Electric for many years before joining the Summit School District as an electrical technician. He found such joy at that job, from the wonderful staff and teachers and especially the children. Mike became an ambassador for service dogs and with Nugget by his side never missed an opportunity to share their story and love of dogs with all the classrooms.
Mike had endless creativity and once he mastered a craft, he was on to the next project including photography, short film production, his Humming in the Snow hummingbird short film was accepted into the 2006 Taos Film Festival. He tied his own flies for fly fishing, made didgeridoos and drums and taught himself to play many instruments. Mike made amazing lamps and light fixtures with copper, wire, components, and just plain cool stuff. Mike also created beautiful rock mushrooms and unique yard art.
You could always find Mike riding the local bus system (you can go anywhere you want for free!) or working on his book at one of his favorite hangouts Kenosha Steakhouse, where everyone knew his name from the staff to customers. He loved meeting and talking to everyone and never met a stranger. His spirit will live on in every music festival, drumbeat, cast of a fishing line and mushroom found. A friend of his said “even if it had been years since you’d last seen Mike, you could always pick up right where you left off.” Till we meet again Mike.
Thank you, Janice Tessier, for being there.
Special thanks to: Caren and Bill Mapes, Mike and Rebecca Zobbe, Cary and Yves Piecoup, Lisa Bova, Carl Scofield and Leigh Girvin for creating and organizing:
