On a morning that demanded both sunglasses and long underwear, John Hickenlooper was sworn in Tuesday as Colorado’s 42nd governor, vowing to chart a bipartisan, business-friendly course and start work on improving the state’s anemic economy.

“Our first task, our highest priority, is jobs,” Hickenlooper said in a 16-minute speech delivered on the west steps of the Capitol after taking the oath of office. “We will help businesses protect and expand the jobs we have, we will attract new jobs, and we will harness the entrepreneurial spirit that has always defined Colorado through her history.”
