On raising the level of debate from the depths of name calling

In response to Morgan Liddick’s Sept. 17 letter, I would submit that, indeed, just like our politicians, we common American citizens could easily gain greater respect in the political arena.We could start by raising the level of our debate from name calling and other forms of ad hominem denigration to a civil, informed discussion of issues. Of course, this last approach entails risk. We might just learn something new and have to change our opinions.
