On the Clock: Ryan McGee

Ryan McGee may have only been in Summit County for three months, but he’s already getting to know Frisco really well as a planning technician for the town.The recent University of Michigan graduate helps with the nuts and bolts operations of Frisco’s planning department and also fields questions and concerns about planning issues from the public. “People have questions about zoning changes or if they can do this or that with their property,” he said. “I just love helping people.”When he’s not in the office, McGee can be found exploring a variety of hobbies from running to cooking.

What do you like best about your job?”I like working with the public. I have a real passion for customer service and helping people. (This job) allows me to be creative too.”What brought you to Summit County?

“I graduated from the University of Michigan last spring and moved to Oregon with a buddy. I applied for the job here, and I had only been in Oregon about a month. “I packed up my car and moved down here for this job … and for the outdoor opportunities.”What do you do when you’re not working?”I definitely do the outdoor activities, like backpacking and hiking. I also like to write. I actually majored in journalism at one point. I cook, too. I love trying new recipes. And I’m really into music and always finding new bands.”

If you could have any job, what would it be?”When I was a kid, I wanted to be a filmmaker.”What’s something people would be surprised to know about you?”I did run two marathons in Pittsburgh.”
