One injured in Arapahoe Basin slide Saturday

One person was injured Saturday in an avalanche at Arapahoe Basin Ski Area.

The slide occurred in west Montezuma Bowl in terrain that was closed to the general public. A ski patroller was leading a group of 14 through the area when the group was caught in the avalanche. After an extensive search, all of the people in the group were accounted for. One person was evacuated by toboggan due to a knee injury, according to a release from the ski area.

The terrain where the slide occurred had undergone extensive avalanche mitigation and explosive work in recent day by ski patrol, according to the ski area release.

Arapahoe Basin and the Colorado Avalanche Information Center are conducting a joint accident investigation.
