COPPER MOUNTAIN Harry Wayne Casey, better known as KC from KC and the Sunshine Band, isnt sure whether he like to be associated with disco or not. The phenomenon, which his tunes Get Down Tonight, Thats the Way (I Like It), and Shake Your Booty are often identified with, came about three years before the term disco was coined. We were the forerunners of that name they labeled it, Casey said. Sometimes its good, but I dont like it when other people look at is as a negative just some disco band.Casey, who brings his show with 15 people on stage to Copper Mountain for a free show at 5 p.m. on Saturday, said his first love in music was R&B and pop.He said the era of the 60s the nation going through its first oil crisis and coming out of Vietnam prompted him to write the highly danceable music.It felt like a very dark time … I felt like creating an album that was upbeat and positive, he said.KC and the Sunshine Band now perform 100 times a year with a show that includes all the hits and then some.Leslie Brefeld can be reached at (970) 668-4626 or lbrefeld@summitdaily.com.
