The PAD in Silverthorne just became The Block Hotel & Commons. Here’s what to know.

After being subject to foreclosure, The PAD in Silverthorne is now under new management. On April 28, the hotel-dorm combo tucked behind the Blue River officially became The Block Hotel & Commons.
Director of marketing Abbey Arlt said the new management group, Crestline Hotel & Resorts LLC, is planning to keep numerous aspects of the business the same, describing the rebrand as an evolution as opposed to a departure. She said the new name plays on the fact that the building was constructed out of recycled shipping containers, giving it a block-like look.
Perhaps the most significant change is moving away from the hostel aspect of the business.
“We do still have those shared dorms, but the (concept of a hostel) has always been kind of a tough thing for people in the U.S. to understand, and commons seems like it defines what we are in the space that we have a little bit better,” she said.
Most other alterations made by Crestline involve name changes. For instance, the A-Bar is now the Block Bar.
Another change is the introduction of what Crestline will call “Block parties,” which is essentially a concept borrowed from The PAD’s “Pad haps,” and they are intended to be community-centric events.
“It is our entire intentionality to build on the foundation that was already created,” she said, noting new management wants to continue to lean into the community gathering aspect of the spot.

Cresltine’s Josh Stuhr said his group plans to keep the community calendar open for local groups to book events and are receptive to anyone who wants to rent space for functions. The community summer yoga, drag trivia, bingo and live music through the summer won’t be going anywhere, either, he said.
Arlt said the rebrand will not impact any current reservations people might have made at The PAD, and everything booked will be honored.
The management of this business has been in a few different hands since the foreclosure of the property in November 2024 after its original owners filed bankruptcy.
Shortly after the foreclosure, a group called 5 Senses Hospitality, which also managed the AC Marriott in Frisco, took over management of The PAD. Not long after that, Crestline Hotel & Resorts LLC bought out 5 Senses Hospitality.

A local couple, Lynne and Rob Baer, opened The PAD in 2021 after starting construction in 2019. Around $12.3 million was secured from Seattle-based BRMK Lending to complete the construction. When it couldn’t pay the bonds back in full, the lender sued in August 2023. Then, a judge appointed a receiver to run the business in Baers’ place during court proceedings.
The PAD eventually filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. BRMK Lending foreclosed on the property in November 2024.
Records from the Summit County Treasurer and Public Trustee’s Office show The PAD was $21 million in debt at the time of the foreclosure.
The first “Block party” is scheduled for May 2 at 7 p.m. It will feature activities like an Ember & Ice sauna and cold plunges. Live music will be provided by band All Your Stupid Friends.
