A wildfire in Park County scorched about 12 acres Thursday afternoon, prompting evacuations and putting some residents on standby to evacuate.

The Harris Park fire, also known as the shooting range fire, was reported at 2:48 p.m. about 8 miles north of Bailey, according to Pike and San Isabel national forests.

The fire, burning on U.S. Forest Service land near the Harris Park Shooting Range, threatened nearby homes. The sheriff’s office ordered evacuations for residents within half a mile of the fire. Residents within a mile were instructed to be on standby.

The evacuation orders were lifted Thursday night, and residents were allowed to go home.
