Park school fees disappoint a parent planning to oppose Park mill levy

Pam Henderson, Park County

I read your Aug. 24 editorial on paying tuition for kindergarten. How do you feel about enrollment fees for public schools?Park County started back to school on Monday. Each student is required to pay a $65 enrollment fee in grades one through five. What happens if the fee is not paid? If you can get free or reduced lunch then the enrollment fee is waived. Yes, the Park County school district is having problems with money. Did the superintendent take a pay cut? The Park County district is planning to have a mill levy vote Nov. 2.I would have been on the yes side of the mill levy, but now, by adding this enrollment fee, my vote will be a no vote and I will also tell my senior friends to vote no, too. I attended several of the planning meetings about the budget and never was the enrollment fee ever dropped on the table.Raising a family in Park County is hard enough without adding fees to the public schools.
