Partial closure of Mount Evans Highway
The Colorado Department of Transportation is closing the upper portion of the Mount Evans Highway Tuesday at 8 a.m.
The road provides access to the top of one of Colorado’s 14,000-foot mountains during the summer months, but transportation officials shutter the 5-mile segment from Summit Lake to the peak after Labor Day in compliance with an agreement with the U.S. Forest Service, according to a CDOT statement.
The lower portion of State Highway 5 – from Echo Lake to Summit Lake – will remain open through October, if weather and driving conditions permit.
