Paul Primeau: No on Keystone PID

Paul Primeau
Hinsdale, Ill.

As a non-Coloradan I can’t vote on the Keystoen “beautification” plan. But I am puzzled about the need for a lot of flowers in the highway median when there are so many other community infrastructure needs.

Most of the businesses in Keystone are owned by Keystone Resort. I’m sure they all would like to have a nice flowers along the highway. But do the taxpayer want to pay for this? I doubt it in today’s economic environment.

There have been letters about the need to save water. I haven’t seen any information on how much will be required for the flowers or who pays for the water.

Part of the proposal is to plant flowers and trees on resort property off the highway. If the resort wants to do that on their property they should do so without taxpayers being asked to pay for it. Vail reported a $37 million profit last year, they sure don’t need a handout.

All in all, it looks like some well-intentioned people didn’t do their homework before bringing this to the voters.

I don’t see how owners can do anything but vote NO on the current proposal.
