Paul Romano: Tort reform needed

The Hertzbergs think we should follow the French (SDN Aug. 6). In a recent Wall Street Journal, one page A1 headline is: “France Fights Universal Care’s High Cost

“Soaring costs are pushing France’s universal health care system into CRISIS [my caps]. “The result: As Congress fights over whether the U.S. should be more like France, France is trying to borrow U.S. tactics.”

I recommend that we ALL tell Obama to tell Congress to give all of us the same medical plan that he and they refuse to give up, (we should accept nothing less) and finance it by the long overdue reform of the tort lawyers instead of the doctors and adopting the VAT (Value Added Tax), which works in Europe, to pay for this, because it is a relatively invisible and relatively fair tax.
