Editor’s note: Readers nominated their all-time favorite Summit County athletes for Peak Performers: The Mount Rushmore of Summit County athletes. Voting begins Sunday, Feb. 23, at SummitDaily.com/peakperformers.

Nominee: Jason Rosener
Sport: Alpine skiing

After relocating to Summit County from Omaha, Nebraska, Jason Rosener credits Team Summit’s Alpine skiing program with teaching him the skills necessary to qualify for and represent Team USA at the 1998 Olympics in Nagano, Japan.

Rosener raced in men’s combined and downhill in Nagano, his best result being 15h in the men’s downhill with a time of 1:52.33, the third-fastest U.S. time in the race at the 1998 games.

As his time with the U.S. Ski Team continued, Rosener based himself out of Breckenridge. His time on the U.S. team included racing at the 1997 World Championships. After the 1998 Olympics, he sat out the 1999 and 2000 seasons due to recurring back problems. He briefly returned for the 2001 season before he officially retired.

At the junior level, Rosener achieved much success, including racing to junior national champion status twice. Rosener was also the downhill bronze medalist at the 1994 World Junior Championships at Whiteface Mountain in Wilmington, New York.
