Perfection at Blue River Highlands

For the uninitiated, the drive up past Silverthorne north on Highway 9 leads to some extraordinary properties, many on larger acreages. Follow the Blue River as it meanders next to the road and savor the blue skies and splendid ranches along the way. About five miles past Silverthorne is an area called Blue River Highlands and our feature today is located in this spectacular setting. The winding driveway leads up to this jewel of a log home located on forty acres. The home sits up majestically at the top of a ridge and enjoys sweeping views in all directions. The five-bedroom, four and a half bath home, with caretaker’s cottage or guest house, is offered at $3,000,000. The wide staircase leads up to the grand entry of the home with its covered porch. The home is a study in Colorado flavor with full log construction. Double doors open into the foyer and the widest plank wood floors there continue directly into the great room. To the left is a wood-paneled study. The great room itself features a wall of glass- French doors and floor to ceiling windows that look out to the mountain vistas. The room is centered by a towering rock wood-burning fireplace that reaches up to the cathedral ceiling.

On the right side of the great room is a carved wooden wet bar that could easily grace a western saloon. The dining area is part of this living space as well with French doors which lead out to the broad wrap-around deck. The deck features a grassy area just in front that is the perfect spot for afternoon reveries. To the right of the living space is the family room, complete with big screen television, stone fireplace, and pool table. A three quarter bath adds convenience. Next is the Ethan Allen kitchen with rustic natural wood cabinets and granite-topped island in grays and charcoals. The flooring here is stone tile. Appliances are part of the GE Monogram series and include a refrigerator, double wall ovens, five burner cooktop, microwave and warming drawer. A breakfast room adjoining the kitchen enjoys a circle of windows which look eye to eye with massive peaks. Additionally, a covered barbeque deck is accessed from this area.

To the left of the living area is the first floor master suite with massive log detail, stone fireplace, and French doors out to the main deck. The outdoor spa soaks up the sun. The ensuite bath have separate sink areas, a corner jetted tub (with views!), and separate shower. His and hers closets are a perfect touch. The adjoining area features a laundry and a workout room with sauna.Half log stairs lead up to a pair of bedroom suites. Each has a private balcony and enjoys the cozy feel of the log detailed ceiling. The loft area continues on this level to a library area which looks over the kitchen.

Stairs down lead to a level with another bedroom and bath and walls of closets. Access to the extra deep two car garage is here. However, the highlight is hidden behind a double, leather-covered pair of doors. Beyond is a full theatre with three levels of seating, twinkling “star” ceiling and amazing art details. Hidden just beyond is the “arcade” area, complete with pinball machines and room for games. This once-in-a-lifetime home rests in a breathtaking setting, with the four-season beauty of our Colorado mountains in every direction. Experience for yourself the perfect mountain retreat!
