Pharr: Big-box gag order?

Baxter Pharr
Silverthorne

In their recent interviews with Silverthorne Town Counsel candidates, the Summit Daily News neglected to ask their position on the single biggest issue facing Silverthorne: are they for or against Home Depot and/or Lowe’s coming to town. Since it appears the current town council has scared Home Depot off by making them jump through a thousand hurdles before breaking ground, it would be interesting to see how potential future town counsel members would treat them. It makes no sense to be chasing off large potential employers when many in our community need a good-paying job. Similarly how long will the do-it-yourselfers be denied the opportunity to remodel their homes and increase their value at a reasonable cost? I have met David Preaus and he seems like a nice family man, but the only reference that this co-owner of a cabinet making company has to the issue in his website reads: “I believe that it is important to support small and locally-owned businesses…” Please do the voters a favor and don’t leave us guessing where the candidates stand on this important issue.
