Re: Good for Silverthorne, but what about the bus station? (SDN, March 17)A letter last week expressed concern over the construction of restrooms at the Silverthorne Park and Ride facility at Fourth and Adams. The Silverthorne Park and Ride project consisted of two phases. Phase I was completed three years ago and consisted of the transfer facility that exists today, including all the shelters. Phase I was constructed with $300,000 from the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and $100,000 from the town, which also donated the land. Phase II, which includes public restrooms and a parking lot, will be constructed this summer. Phase II will be funded by $400,000 from CDOT and $200,000 from the town. Phase II could not be built until this year as we awaited the purchase of land for the parking lot, which will be located directly across the street from the transfer center. Funding for this project is in no way impacted by the town’s decision to pay off the recreation center bonds early, which is saving the town almost $1 million in interest over the next 10 years. The town and CDOT are happy to have worked together to bring this worthwhile project to the town. Without CDOT’s funding support, this project would not have been possible. The previous transfer station on Third Street was dangerous and did not have the capacity we now have at the new site. We also did not have a site for parking or restrooms, both of which will be added to the site this summer.
