Phone service restored following cut fiber optic line
FRISCO — Communications were fully restored to the Summit County 911 Center early Tuesday morning following outages across the state.
The Summit County 911 Center, along with other dispatch centers and customers around western Colorado, temporarily lost phone service due to a “third-party fiber cut,” according to a brief statement from CenturyLink spokesperson Nikki Wheeler. CenturyLink technicians restored services at about 4 a.m. Tuesday, she said.
Jerry De Valle, director at the 911 center, said the incident affected emergency phone services in 21 counties across the state.
Summit County director of Emergency Management Brian Bovaird said no major issues popped up during the outage, though preparations were made. The Office of Emergency Management set up an emergency operations center from 4 p.m. Monday to about 7 a.m. Tuesday. Bovaird said two Integrated Public Alert & Warning System alerts went out along with Summit County alerts.
Bovaird noted that the 911 center did respond to one text message for an emergency medical call, though others were able to get through to the dispatch center by calling.
While services to the 911 center have been restored, the county is reporting ongoing issues at a number of locations. County offices at the Summit County Justice Center and the South Branch Library in Breckenridge are unable to make or receive outside phone calls.
