Photographer to talk about his work, evolution in digital age

Special to the Daily/Jim Sapp

On Sunday from 4-5 p.m., Summit County photographer Jim Sapp will present a talk about his photography and how his technique has evolved in the digital age. Sapp has been taking photographs for 60 years. He has worked with 35 mm and medium- and large-format (up to 8-by-10 inches) view cameras.

“About 10 years ago, I got my first digital camera and it rekindled my enthusiasm,” Sapp said. “I take over 7,000 photos per year.”

Sapp will have about 25 of his photos at the County Commons for this show. “You’ll see birds photographed in Jefferson and Summit counties, mountain goats photographed on Mount Evans at 14,000 feet, big horn sheep photographed in Clear Creek County, fox photos taken in Summit County and moose photographed in Rocky Mountain (National) Park and Walden,” he said.

Viewers may recognize Sapp’s work from the Summit Daily’s 2013 calendar, which includes three of his photos. Sunday’s talk in the Mount Royal Room at the County Commons is free, and refreshments will be served. The Summit County Arts Exhibit Committee will display Sapp’s photos at the County Commons building now through July 2.

The Summit County Arts Exhibit Committee’s mission is to add significance to the quality of life enjoyed by Summit County residents and visitors by instilling an awareness and appreciation of the arts.
