Picture of Mexican flag points out fact size matters when it comes to flying flags

The Thursday, Sept. 23 Summit Daily News’ Education section had a photo of a classroom at the Summit Middle School Newcomers Center.Behind the students there appears to be a very large Mexican flag. This flag is displayed with equal prominence to the United States flag. Furthermore, the Mexican flag appears larger than the United States flag. Can it be that the Summit School District staff does not know the correct manner of displaying the flag of the United States of America? What is the purpose of the Mexican flag in a tax-supported facility in Colorado, USA? The children are in this class to learn English, not to learn about Mexico. Right? A Denver school recently caused a big uproar by displaying a Mexican flag in a classroom equally to the U.S. flag. Does Summit County plan to follow Denver’s lead? I hope not. Information on displaying the flag can be found at the following Web sites: http://www.govspot.com/ask/flag.htm and http://www.ushistory.org/betsy/flagetiq.html.The following reference is from the U.S. Flag Code. Reference: U.S. Flag Code (4 U.S. Code 1) Section (c) (c) No person shall display the flag of the United Nations or any other national or international flag equal, above, or in a position of superior prominence or honor to, or in place of, the flag of the United States at any place within the United States or any territory or possession thereof.
