BUENA VISTA – Local rafting team Pinchie Time captured second place at the U.S. Rafting National Championships Tuesday. The 6-mile course on The Numbers section along the Arkansas River was flowing so high that it was almost too fast to run commercial rafts. Ron Burke of Pinchie Time said the water was really high but nothing the team wasn’t familiar with.”I thought the race went well. Great clean lines everywhere, the water was flowing big and it was warm too, it felt great,” said John Anicito of Pinchie Time.

Though the competitive whitewater rafting season is coming to an end, Pinchie Time’s members said they will continue to train and see where the rest of the summer takes them. The team took second behind the U.S. Men’s National Rafting Team, which is currently ranked No. 2 in the world.”Second place to one of the best teams in the world, doesn’t really feel like second place,” Burke said.

“It’s rafting, I mean you can’t have a bad day,” said Paul Renfro of Pinchie Time. The race included teams from California, Oregon and Colorado.
