Pine Cove campground reopens

Summit County, CO Colorado

DILLON ” After finishing up logging to clear out beetle-killed trees, the U.S. Forest Service has reopened to Pine Cove campground on the Frisco peninsula.

The nearby Peak One campground remains closed as logging operations continue.

“Campers should know that the timber harvest of the nearby Peak One Campground is still underway, so that area remains closed to the public,” said Howard Scott, Dillon Ranger District recreation technician.

Because logging is extremely dangerous, Scott warned the public to steer clear of that area.

The Pine Cove Campground, located at the end of the Frisco Peninsula, has 32 sites adjacent to the Dillon Reservoir and five walk-in tent sites; sites cost $14 per night.

Campers should be aware that although the campground is open, the boat ramp at Pine Cove is closed because of the zebra-mussel threat.

Boats should be launched at the Frisco or Dillon marinas; boats can still be beached near the campsites on the shore of the reservoir.
