Pipeline for Arkansas River stirs concerns

KIOWA – A proposed water pipeline from Lamar to Elbert County is raising concerns over depleting water in the Arkansas River and losing irrigated farmland.

Elbert County residents fear the pipeline will take too much water out of the aquifers.

Prowers County is worried it will lose irrigated farmland and seasonal farm-labor jobs.

The Denver Post reports (http://bit.ly/qRqBpB) GP Water Group chief executive Karl Nyquist believes the benefits in both counties will outweigh the negative impacts
