Pit bulls should be banned from the county

What are we waiting for, a mauled child? A disfigured adult? Both? I’m appalled that Summit County has chosen to embrace the adoptions of pit bulls. In a small community with lots of outside activity, it is especially irresponsible.Denver has chosen not to allow pit bulls because they kill people. An entire province in Canada is choosing to do the same. And what are we doing here in Summit County? Come on down! Maul our children! I’m sure there are owners who would say “not their dog.” I might believe them until they do. As dogs age, so can their disposition. A pit bull might be wonderful for a few years, but you never know. I think very few owners would say, “Hey, my dog’s a killer.” Certain animals have genetic makeups wired for aggression. Pit bulls would be at the top of this list. Last Saturday, a pit bull showed up at the soccer fields with hundreds of small kids, running and kicking balls. The animal shelter believes it is saving animals but it could be setting up a situation to harm a child. The shelter cannot be responsible for owners who bring their dangerous animals to events with children. They can, however, be responsible and not bring the dogs in for adoption. As residents of Summit County, I urge all of you to talk to your kids about the dangers of pit bulls. I also urge you to complain to the animal shelter, to the towns, to the owners who bring pit bulls to soccer fields. If entire countries are banning the dogs, I think Summit County should wake up and smell the danger.
