Please report fairly on the trial

I would like to echo the sentiments expressed by Leslie Day regarding Dr. Patricia Duletsky. My experience and impressions of Dr. Duletsky have always been that she is a kind, caring, and skilled professional. As you have read from others, Pat has been a giving and contributing member of this community. Therefore, for the Summit Daily News to continue to follow this very unfortunate story from the plaintiff’s perspective is one-sided and wrong. Additionally, to report that Dr. Lowell Young said “one dose of penicillin or an antibiotic of the penicillin family would have saved the lives of Susanna Martens and her baby” is irresponsible. A quick internet search from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) would inform you and your readers that more than 1,000 people die every year of Group A streptococcus and that “antibiotics do not prevent death in every case.” In fact, a Group A streptococcus infection took Jim (the Muppets) Henson’s life in 1990. My heart goes out to Mr. Small for his devastating loss, but as Dr. Jim Oberheide has written, “let’s not try this case in the newspaper,” but please report it fairly.
