Police have no leads in pub burglaries

Jane Reuter

SUMMIT COUNTY – Silverthorne and Dillon police have no solid leads in burglaries that took place the same night in two local pubs.

Murphy’s in Silverthorne and Pug Ryan’s in Dillon were burglarized during the night of May 26.

Dillon police will not release information on the Pug Ryan’s incident, fearing it will compromise their investigation.

In Silverthorne, employees who arrived at the restaurant and pub about 10 a.m. May 27 found a broken door, and the business safe was standing open. Thousands of dollars in cash, credit card slips and checks in deposit bags were missing from the safe. Later in the morning, a passer-by found some of the empty deposit bags underneath a truck parked a couple of blocks away on Brian Avenue.

Police officers also found two Corona Light beer bottles just outside the restaurant doors; Murphy’s doesn’t sell Corona Light in bottles.

“They’re lucky I wasn’t here to catch them,” said Murphy’s owner Bernie Murphy.

While police don’t yet have leads, they haven’t closed the case.

“We’ve been doing some fingerprinting on existing employees trying to rule them out,” said Wanda Pearson, spokeswoman for the Silverthorne Police Department.

Anyone with information on either of the burglaries may call the Silverthorne or Dillon police departments at (970) 262-7320 or (970) 468-6078.
