Police investigating death of Breckenridge toddler

Officials with the Breckenridge Police Department confirmed detectives are investigating the death of a 13-month-old boy, who was apparently the victim of an accidental drowning.

The child, Kevin Trejo, died at Summit Medical Center Wednesday night, according to a statement from the Summit County Coroner.

Authorities say it is common for law enforcement to follow up when someone dies unexpectedly, regardless of age.

“We typically investigate the facts surrounding most deaths, with the exception of someone who may have been terminally ill,” police spokeswoman Kim Stremel stated in an email.

An autopsy will be performed on the child.

Authorities would not release any additional information about the investigation.

This story will be updated if more information becomes available.
