Polis not the first openly gay person to win election

Robb Quint, Thousand Oaks, Calif.

In your Aug. 13 news story about the Colorado second-district primary election you incorrectly state that “[Jared] Polis is vying to be the first openly gay person to win election to Congress.”

Tammy Baldwin, D-Wisc., already holds that distinction as the first openly gay person to win election to Congress (as a non-incumbent, and Barney Frank, D-Mass., has won election to Congress as an openly gay incumbent).

Polis would become the first non-incumbent openly gay man (not the first openly gay person) to win election to Congress.
