New owners of Breckenridge gift shop add their own twist

Friends Miranda Murphy and Genevieve Siegert said they have long noticed the lack of romance novel-centric stores in Colorado. They say it’s a trend most states have embraced though it’s less prevalent in Colorado.

The two began conceiving the idea to bring the trend to Summit County around two years ago, after the owner of the shop they worked at, Wandering Daisy in Breckenridge, decided to sell them the spot.

“Since we bought the shop it’s been our dream to also be a bookstore of some kind, and we love romance books,” Siegert said. “It’s where our specialty lies.”

Siegert was formally a librarian, which helped introduce her to the romance genre and the world surrounding it. She would pass her findings along to Murphy, who said she appreciated the consistent book recommendations.

After they bought Wandering Daisy, they launched their plan, starting with the creation of a book club. From there they began thinking about rearranging the shop, which mostly showcases work from local creatives, to include space for books. Just before the start of 2025, they were able to make it happen.

Now numerous romance novels, from modern love stories to romantic comedies, can be found by the dozen in Wandering Daisy.

The two said the news of them expanding to become a romance book store spread throughout the town, and they’ve even had visits from some of the novelists who wrote the books they now carry.

Wandering Daisy is located at 326 Main St. For more information, visit WanderingDaisy.shop.

Outdoor brand Stio to set up shop in Breckenridge

Stio, a mountain lifestyle brand headquartered in Jackson Hole, will be opening a location in Breckenridge this summer.

Stio representatives say this will be the company’s 13th location, potentially opening as soon as July at 505 Main St.

“Breckenridge is one of the most iconic mountain towns in the Rocky Mountains, and we couldn’t be happier to set up shop and join their community of skiers, riders, hikers and anglers,” said Kris Nelson, retail director of Stio, in a recent news release. “Our location in Main Street Station puts us on the doorstep of some of the best terrain in Colorado, where we can’t wait to connect with and support this region of mountain athletes.”

Stio makes technical apparel, footwear and equipment geared toward mountain athletes. It was founded in 2011 by outdoor enthusiast Stephen Sullivan. The Breckenridge location will join four others in Colorado including those in Vail, Boulder and Steamboat Springs.

Allied Chiropractic under new ownership with plans to move location

After being led by chiropractor Stephen Herbert for almost 25 years, Allied Chiropractic was sold to newcomer Joshua Boudar.

Boudar, who was raised by a massage therapist, has a lengthy history with the health and wellness industry, holding a career in the field for the past 10 years.

He received a doctorate of chirporactic from Cleveland University in Kansas City in April and said he was ready to come back and practice in his home state.

“I was told by multiple mentors that ‘You need to practice where you want to live,’ and I couldn’t think of anywhere better than living in the mountains of Colorado,” he said via email. “I have many memories of visiting Summit County with my family or with my Boy Scout troop while I was growing up.”

He was excited when he found out Herbert was selling his practice, but he thought it would be a long shot. The two have similar ways of operating and use similar techniques, he said.

Luckily, he said it was a perfect fit, and Herbert sold him the practice.

Boulder said he plans to continue delivering the same high-level of care Herbert did, noting they will continue to offer Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT), a treatment that delivers an increased level of oxygen to the body’s organs in a pressurized environment.

“Our goal with chiropractic care is to not only diagnose and treat an injury, but also to understand the underlying cause and provide the necessary rehabilitation to prevent re-occurrence,” he said.

Starting in June, the office will operate out of 106 N. French St.

Hours of operation will also be changing. Hours on Mondays to Thursdays will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. On Fridays, it will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
