Portions of Rocky Mtn. Nat’l Park to close for nesting raptors

GREELEY – Portions of Rocky Mountain National Park will soon be closed in an effort to give raptors that live there a little more quiet time for themselves.Park officials say the closures will begin March 1st to help protect raptor nesting sites, and to allow officials to collect information on the birds of prey.The closed areas include Alligator Rock, Batman Pinnacle, Batman Rock, Checkerboard Rock, Deer Ridge Buttress, Lightning Rock, Sheep Mountain, The Parish, Thunder Buttress, and Twin Owls – Rock One.The closures include all access trails, cliffs, climbing routes, outcroppings, and ascending and descending routes.The park says the closure will last through July 31st, but says the date is subject to change.
