Power outage shuts down traffic signals

SUMMIT COUNTY – Virtually all the traffic lights in Silverthorne and Dillon went on the blink around 5 p.m. Monday during a power outage.

About 1,500 customers in parts of Dillon, Silverthorne, Frisco and Wildernest lost power, some of them for as little as 15 minutes and others for an hour.

cel Energy spokesman Mark Stutz said the outage stemmed from damage to a major transformer. Unlike a Feb. 13 outage, this one was not related to magnesium chloride.

Silverthorne and Dillon police directed traffic through several intersections during the rush-hour outage, but they reported no accidents during that time.
