Prayer is not what separates us from other species

Monte M. Lowrance, Fairplay

In response to Rick Geise’s “What makes us different?” letter (Daily Mail, Dec. 9), someone needs to let Rick know that you can not answer a difficult philosophical question with a simple religious answer. For one thing, you need to find something that is common to all of us, like the fact that we are rational beings, or the fact that we can contemplate our existence – not on something that is only common to some of us, like prayer.Rick may want to read something other than his Christian mythology book to see that not everyone on this planet considered to be a homosapien prays. And a large number of people are able to find their spirituality without “necessitating the pre-existence of God.”There are some good books available that could help Rick broaden his horizons. But, sorry Rick, prayer is not what makes us different from other species.
