Public comments sought on San Isabel Forest Endurance Race

The Pike, San Isabel and White River national forests are seeking public comments on a proposed six-day endurance running race from Buena Vista to Beaver Creek.

The event involves two-person teams that run 15-25 miles per day passing through the public lands on the Salida, Leadville and Eagle/Holy Cross Ranger Districts.

More than 300 runners have participated in the event and race organizers would like to double the number to 600 participants. Staging areas are to be placed on private land to help reduce impacts to public lands.

An environmental analysis of the effects of issuing a five-year special use permit to authorize the event is being conducted by the Forest Service.

For more information, call Janie Pardo at (970) 827-5178. Obtain copies of the proposal and event maps at the Holy Cross Ranger District in Minturn.

Responses to the proposal are due Feb. 14 and can be sent to David Neely, Eagle/Holy Cross District Ranger, ATTN: TransRockies Run Recreation Event, P.O. Box 190, Minturn, CO, 81645 or e-mail to Include your name or your organization’s name, address and telephone number and the name of the event.
