Public meetings begin Friday for Red, White and Blue Fire Department

The Red, White and Blue Fire Department is hosting a series of public informational meetings about an important upcoming election.Homeowners in and around Breckenridge will decide in May whether to chip in to help the local fire department pay for the replacement of equipment, for maintenance on its aging main fire station and to sustain its current staffing levels.The department plans to ask voters in its district for a mill levy increase of up to 1.8 mills – from 7.2 mills to 9 mills – during a May 2 special election, said chief Gary Green.That equates to about $15 per $100,000 assessed value of a home per year, or about $60 for a property with a fair market value of $500,000.The district’s boundaries are Hoosier Pass to the south, the Frisco town limits to the north, the Continental Divide to the east and the Tenmile Range to the west.The meeting schedule is as follows:- Friday, April 21, 7 p.m. – Station 6: 316 N. Main St., Breckenridge- Sunday, April 23, 1 p.m. – Station 4: 13365 Highway 9 (across from the Breckenridge golf course)- Wednesday, April 26, 7 p.m. – Station 7: 120 Whispering Pines Ln., Blue RiverFor more information, call (970) 453-2474.
