Pueblo board approves sale of Columbine Ditch

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

PUEBLO – The Pueblo Board of Water Works has approved a contract selling the Columbine Ditch near Leadville to Aurora for $30.48 million.

The approval came Friday. The water board will use money from the sale as part of a $60 million package to buy 5,200 shares of the Bessemer Ditch in the Arkansas Valley. Board Executive Director Alan Hamel says the water board will lease back water to many of the 65 Bessemer Ditch shareholders who are selling.

The water board originally agreed to sell Columbine Ditch to Ginn Development, which wanted to use the water in the Battle Mountain ski resort it is building at Minturn, but the city of Aurora had a right of first refusal.
