Questioning ‘ring leader’ status

Ed Payne, Breckenridge RE: Drug ring busted (SDN May 31)

The published article states nothing of the perpetrators’ nationalities. Only that they are a “Drug Ring” disbanded and most are illegal immigrants. Calling these suspects terrorists is hardly justifiable, considering that two small caliber handguns were seized and zero resistance was brought upon authorities at the times of arrest. One instance of misinformation in the May 31 article names alleged leaders. What it doesn’t tell you is that one leader is 18 years old, a U.S. citizen and has been a Summit County resident for six years. He went to high school here. He’s 18 years old and facing up to 16 years in prison over an alleged mistake he made barely into adulthood. Now, he is sitting in jail on $50,000 bond. Does it not seem a drug dealer with “Ring Leader” status would be within the hierarchy and good graces of his drug connection to get out or attain at least something other than a court appointed attorney? My opinion is that the drug enforcement team of Summit County was a tad quick on the draw naming ring leaders, when they’re still in the process of investigating the whole scheme of the crimes committed.I am sorry to tell you about the harsh reality of drugs: They are going to be around our children regardless if we close our borders and punish drug dealers with silly euphemisms. Educate and spend time with your children.Send letters to the editor by e-mail to letters@summitdaily.com. Past letters can be read at http://www.summitdaily.com.
