FRISCO – For anyone who wants to do more to support breast cancer research and treatment than just wear a pink bracelet, the fourth annual Romp to Stomp Out Breast Cancer will be your chance. The March 11 fundraiser at the Frisco Nordic Center is open to men and women of all abilities. Event organizer Joan Davids, a breast cancer survivor herself, said for anyone touched personally by breast cancer, the growing event has a profound meaning.”It’s to celebrate those who’ve gone through cancer and to honor those who have succumbed,” Davids said. Participants can register for the easy 3K or 5K snowshoe walk, or register to run in a 3K snowshoe race. Trophies will be given to top race finishers. Proceeds go to the Denver Metropolitan Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. At last year’s Romp to Stomp, nearly 1,300 snowshoers raised more than $50,000 for breast cancer education, screening and treatment programs. A free pancake breakfast and entertainment by local performer Nancy Cook will help give this year’s event a Summit County feel, she added. This year’s event will also include a silent auction, an awards ceremony, prize drawings and a breast cancer survivor tribute. No experience with snowshoes is necessary and organizers promise more than 300 pairs of Tubbs snowshoes will be available for race-day use on a first-come, first-serve basis. No parking will be allowed at the Nordic Center, but registration and off-site parking will be located at the Summit Middle School, the Summit County Community and Senior Center and Summit High School.
