It’s hard to imagine someone with their hands in as many aspects of Summit County as Kelly Renoux.

In her two decades in the county, Renoux has managed to become a mainstay in the local theater and nonprofit scenes and — of course — is a 25-year veteran of the ski industry, as well. It helped her earn the title of Ms. Summit County in the 2024 Best of Summit contest.

She sees her wide community involvement at least in part as a way of showing appreciation for living in a place like Summit County.

“I tell everybody, we are so fortunate to live in a place that people save up all year to spend a week in,” Renoux said.

Renoux is originally from Monument and moved to Summit County in 1999 with her husband, Matt, who is a 26-year-veteran reporter of the 9News mountain newsroom. She works as director of employee experience at Copper Mountain Resort.

Kelly said she and Matt met while involved in theater in college. Continuing that passion has helped bolster her involvement in the Summit community.

“I started working with Theatre SilCo over 20 years ago when it was still the Dillon Theater Co.,” Renoux said, adding that she considers herself an “actress and singer on the side.” Currently, she and Matt are co-directing a fall play at Summit High School titled “A-Haunting We Will Go.”

In the nonprofit world, Renoux has been on the board of the Summit Foundation since June 2010, and she is involved with numerous other nonprofits in the community.

“My husband and I do a lot of hosting and emceeing of nonprofit charity events. … We do a lot on that side, because we’re not afraid of getting in front of a microphone,” she said.

She said she also makes sure to “drag” the couple’s daughter, Sonnett, to theatrical productions and nonprofit events, too.

Renoux said that becoming involved in the community can be as simple as finding the things one is interested in and going after them.

“I think that you just follow your passion,” she said. “There’s a nonprofit for just about anything you’re interested in … You have to find your passion and find your people.”
