Real Estate at a Glance: Single family home sales for the week of Feb. 26

Fourteen single family homes sold in January, five more than last January, and most of them were very inexpensive. The average sale price dropped below $650,000 for the first time since 2005 reflecting several short sales and foreclosures. Clearly, bargain hunters are out in force.

There were about 1,800 properties listed for sale last week as the inventory seems to have found the low point for the year.

Real Estate Fact of the Week

7… number of bank-owned or short sale homes sold in January, half of the sales that were closed last month.
