Real Estate At A Glance: Total January sales – Week of Feb. 5, 2011

There were 20 percent more properties sold in January than in the same month last year to make the second January increase since the low point in January of 2009. The average price fell by 11 percent from last January and 15 percent from last year’s overall average. So more properties are selling for less money. But if the inventory continues to dwindle, this trend will not continue. With 1,788 properties for sale this week, that’s about 1,000 (33 percent) fewer than the peak number in 2010.
