Red, White & Blue Fire Department receives grant for wildfire equipment

BRECKENRIDGE – The Colorado State Forest Service gave Red, White & Blue Fire $4,246 to be used for wildfire equipment and personal protective equipment such as fire shelters and fire resistant Nomex clothing. Some examples of the items the department plans to purchase with this money include new line packs, helmets, Nomex pants and shirts, and fire shelters. The fire shelters are used as a last resort of protection for a firefighter when the conditions are so deadly that no other means of escape is available. Red, White & Blue is committed to purchasing these newer shelters because the design has recently been upgraded and it is the safest option available. “This is an excellent way for us to get the safest equipment possible and save our community money,” Chief Gary Green said. “It is nice to see that our state agencies are willing to provide the rural fire departments the chance to participate in these grants and supply the firefighters and community in this way.”This grant is one of several that Red, White & Blue is currently pursuing.
